By Caitlin O’Callaghan, Year 11

The cold reality of homelessness bites deep on the winter streets of Sydney. The causes of homelessness run far and wide. However, not one statistic will indicate that homelessness is a choice. 50% of homeless women say that domestic violence is their main reason for living on the street. Furthermore, a massive 30% of all homeless people are said to suffer from mental illnesses.

There are a number of reasons why someone experiences homelessness, and no story is the same. In light of this, Scarves for Change, is committed to breaking down the stigmas surrounding homelessness and providing individuals with the comfort and warmth that every human being deserves. Launching in Term 3, Loreto will be running fundraisers and accepting donations ranging from toothbrushes to blankets.

Every donation will be appreciated, so look out to see how you can help make a difference!
